Who can turn the world on with her smile?

This opening scene is inspired entirely by The Mary Tyler Moore Show.  I've been compared to a young Mary Tyler Moore for as long as I've been acting.

Technically it all started with my Uncle Tony at my 3rd ballet recital when I was 5 (pictured here). This scene's for you, Uncle Tony.  Rest peacefully.

For me, it was always about The Dick Van Dyke Show.  I love that blonde haired brunette quality Mary brought to the role of Laura Petrie.  (I had to throw an "oh Rob" in this scene for good measure.)

It wasn't until 2021, when I found myself trying to make it on my own following the end of a marriage and the closing of a major chapter, that I finally dug into The Mary Tyler Moore Show.  I'd fall asleep to it many nights for months, finding comfort in the theme song and Mary's bravery and grace.  I even moved into an apartment with a sunken living room, just like hers!

THOSE LEIS THO...

As Director of Rituals for Delta Gamma sorority at UCSD, I was tasked with providing the pledge class with leis for their initiation ceremony.  Turns out leis are primarily sold at graduation season and my boyfriend got stuck stringing them together by hand for me, something we went on to laugh about for years.  I live for physical comedy.  And getting to play this out on stage is one of the highlights of the show for me.
